Nitro Circus dazzles and delights SA
Fireworks and bikes simultaneously blasted through the air at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg recently. Here fans of all ages were hypnotised by the action sports entertainment that is Nitro Circus 2017.
Freestyle motocross champ and Nitro Circus instigator Travis Pastrana finally made his South African debut and an ecstatic crowd welcomed him to the stadium. Pastrana couldn’t join the 2014 tour to South Africa tour after suffering a broken leg.

Travis is a megastar and became the first person in the world to land a double backflip on a motorcycle during the Best Trick event at the X Games in 2006.
Insane stunts were the order of the day with bikes soaring overhead. South African FMX stars Alastair Sayer and Nick DeWitt also joined the show. Aaron “Wheelz” Fotheringham who completed the World’s first backflip on a wheelchair, repeated this feat live.

This was action sports entertainment at its best, with daredevils performing the latest stunts mixed up with some of the classics. From ‘Rock Solid Flips’, to ‘Tsunami Flips’, and even the new and incredibly named ‘Hand take-off to one-hand Indy to one-hand Superman to side-saddle lander’ from Alistair Sayer, the crowd was transfixed on the stunts that were perfectly executed.
The show includes freestyle motocross (FMX), BMX, scooter, skateboard, inline, and contraptions. The contraptions ridden off of the ramp included a rocking horse, a canoe and even a mini Volkswagen bus. The world renowned action sports show captivated the local audience once again.
