Tour Video: The Classic Cederberg Adventure Tour – 3 days

The Cederberg region is a South African treasure, loved by adventure bikers, rock climbers and all who know it. Our “Cederberg Classic” tour (video below) takes in some of the region’s most popular attractions, including the mesmerising Wupperthal–Eselbank road, Middelberg pass and the Stadsaal caves.

Day 1: Klapmuts, Ceres, Cederberg Oasis

We meet at The Potbelly in Klapmuts (near Stellenbosch and Paarl) and ride to Ceres, where we pause for caffeine at Tremor Coffee Bar. We turn north on the R303, pass through Prince Alfred Hamlet and ascend Gydo Pass. We keep going north until we turn right after Op die Berg. The road turns to the north, and changes from tar to gravel. Here the peace and beauty of the Cederberg region begins to embrace you! At Cederberg Oasis, you are assigned a private tent or A-frame cabin, while we prepare your dinner.

Day 2: Wupperthal, Eselbank and the CAO

Our journey starts and ends at Cederberg Oasis. We ride to Clanwilliam and turn onto the R364, which meanders in a north-easterly direction, before we turn towards Wupperthal. On the outskirts of the town, we ascend a spectacular pass and ride to Eselbank, before we make our way back to Cederberg Oasis. After an early dinner, we visit the Cederberg Astronomical Observatory (CAO) for an interesting presentation, and stargazing through their telescopes.

Day 3: Cederberg Oasis, Middelberg Pass, Klapmuts

Leaving Cederberg Oasis, we follow the previous day’s route at first, but turn towards Citrusdal. Here we join the R303, ride Middelberg Pass (gravel), and continue all the way to Op die Berg. Then we retrace our steps to Ceres. From here it’s a short ride before we disband at the Potbelly in Klapmuts.
